Amarillo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Amarillo is holding a program to help someone who has broken, chipped or missing teeth bring back their smile.
“Smile Again,” as the program is dubbed, is a program that’s a variation of a service they offer at their office called “Brighter Smile.”
“We have an outpatient process,” Dr. William Graves, owner of Amarillo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, said. “We take someone in the community with broken and missing teeth, who can’t afford to pay for this on their own and we’re going to give this service for free for this person.”
The office will work with a general dentist who is going to help with the all-day procedure and the patient will need to go every six months to have their teeth cleaned and maintain the routine dental hygiene. The giveaway, however, is just the initial replacement/service.
“If you look at what we’re giving away, it’s equivalent to $50,000,” Dr. Graves said.
Dr. Graves didn’t want to rule out the possibility of an annual giveaway, but did say this is the only one this year. The decision to do this as an office was made to help change someone’s life.
“It’s one of the procedures that we do quite often in our office and it’s really a life-changing experience,” Dr. Graves said.
“If someone has missing/broken teeth, you can’t eat properly or you’re embarrassed with the way you look. You do this procedure it changes your life.”
The process starts with a one-day surgery, for which patients are typically asleep. Implants are put in and take four months to heal, then a general dentist works with Amarillo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to put the new permanent teeth in.
The application process is open until July 24 and the recipient will be picked Aug. 23.
Dr. Graves said more than 60 people have applied for it in Pampa.
Applying for the process is easy, just visit the Facebook page for Amarillo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
“You can apply for yourself, or you can apply for someone else, you just have to let them know,” Dr. Graves said.
